Salerno is in Campania.

Understand

Salermo is the place where the allies landed in WW2 starting their campaign in Italy. It still is a major industrial harbour and has nothing of the charm of the neighbouring Amalfi Coast. You will probably end up here changing busses and trains which leave from here to Naples and Rome, to Apulia and to the South. From here you can also get to Paestum and to the local busses to Amalfi and Positano
